More Polish firefighters head to Greece amid wildfires

Another group of over 160 Polish firefighters arrived in Greece on Monday to replace their colleagues who have been helping battle wildfires in that country since August 7.

The new team is expected to remain in the Mediterranean country for at least two weeks.

“The experience of my colleagues working on the site shows that the situation can take a dramatic turn," said Marcin Kędra, commander of the second Polish contingent.

"Their mission was originally planned to last two weeks, but an outbreak of two more wildfires in the Vilia area caused the Greek government to ask that we provide assistance for another two weeks there," he added.
